A bot-free note taker, in practice
A bot-free note taker records the meeting from your own device, without sending an automated assistant into the call. Recapro captures the audio natively from the mobile or desktop app, then transcribes and summarises it. No robot participant joins the video call, and nobody else sees that notes are being taken.

The difference is not cosmetic. It decides who sees the recording and where the audio goes.
The bot that joins the call
A visible account ("Notetaker", "Assistant") enters the Zoom, Meet or Teams meeting as a participant. Everyone sees it in the list, the host sometimes has to admit it, and the audio travels through the vendor’s infrastructure to be processed.
Device-side recording
The app captures your device audio directly, without joining the call. Nothing shows up in the participant list. This is Recapro’s approach, and it works for a video call as well as an in-room meeting recorded from the phone.
The browser recorder
Some vendors offer, alongside their bot, an extension or tab that captures the meeting audio with no visible participant. It is often a secondary feature, yet it is what their "bot-free" claim can rest on.
What "bot-free" actually covers
A single vendor can advertise "bot-free" while its flagship product is still a bot that is visible by default, with the promise applying only to a side option. Always check whether the default mode sends a robot into the call.
None of these approaches is illegitimate in itself. The point to settle is simple: in the mode you will use every day, does an automated participant appear in the meeting, and where does the audio go to be transcribed?
A "bot-free" claim worth reading closely
"Bot-free" has become a selling point. It is worth checking vendor by vendor, because the claim does not always cover the product’s default mode.
- Some vendors present themselves as "bot-free" while their main meeting assistant joins the call as a participant by default.
- The "bot-free" claim then rests on a secondary feature, a browser recorder for example, rather than on the tool’s default behaviour.
- The nuance matters to a buyer: the mode they will switch on in a meeting is not necessarily the one the vendor’s marketing puts forward.
Vendors keep changing their products; check on their official pages which mode is on by default when you make your choice.

On every surface Recapro runs on, recording starts from your own device or from a file you already have, and the call’s participant list stays as it was.
iPhone and Android
The mobile app uses the phone’s microphone to record an in-room meeting, a field appointment or a video call you follow on another screen. It keeps recording with the screen locked and works offline. With the Cloud offer, transcription then runs on our servers in France once the connection is back. With Fortress On-Premise, it runs on your own server.
Mac (Apple Silicon)
On macOS 14.4 and later, the desktop app records the sound of your Zoom, Meet or Teams meeting directly, and nothing shows up in the participant list. From macOS 13.0 to 14.3, it records the microphone. Recapro warns you when the disk is filling up, a microphone is unplugged or the battery runs low. If the computer crashes, the recording is waiting for you on restart.
Windows
The same desktop app installs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. You start recording on the computer during the video call, then the transcript and the meeting notes are produced on our servers in France, or on your own server with Fortress On-Premise.
Browser (Recapro Web)
Recapro Web opens in your browser with nothing to install. You import an existing recording there, such as an exported video call or a voice recorder file, and Recapro turns it into meeting notes filed under the recording date. It is also the route to take on an Intel Mac, since the desktop app runs on Apple Silicon Macs only. To record live, use the mobile or desktop app.
